Yuri 2026
Producer
A Bristol-based film exploring motherhood, immigration, and the quiet process of losing and rediscovering identity.
The film follows Yuri, a Japanese woman who left Japan’s restrictive social environment to settle in Bristol with her British husband and young son, Oli. As a first-time mother, Yuri devotes herself entirely to raising her child. In the intensity of this care, her own sense of self slowly begins to slip away, shaped by cultural displacement, routine, and the invisible labour of motherhood.
Motherhood reconnects Yuri with memories of her childhood in Japan: the sound of fireworks at summer festivals, the taste of mugi-cha and kombu, and the feeling of handmade clothes sewn by her grandmother. These memories inspire her to begin making clothes for Oli by hand, allowing him to experience fragments of Japanese culture while growing up in the UK.
Through fabric, memory, and craft, Yuri steps outside her daily routine and discovers a passion that belongs solely to her. In the process, she begins to rediscover her individuality and reconnect with her cultural identity, finding a space where motherhood and selfhood can coexist.

A young wildlife photographer forms deep bonds with Bristol’s urban foxes while navigating personal challenges, channelling them through his photography.
Solace in the city
Chris Wardell becomes immersed in the city’s hidden nocturnal world, forming quiet, intimate bonds with its urban foxes. As personal challenges begin to isolate him, his work becomes both an emotional outlet and a way of making sense of his place in the world. Reflecting on a growing disconnect between young people and the outdoors, he uses his photography to rediscover a sense of curiosity and presence, while also challenging widespread perceptions of foxes.
